Several city roads will be closed early this morning as crews work to move two oversized transformers, a news release said.
The first truck began at Ferry and Diamond Springs roads about 9 p.m. Monday. It was travelling down Diamond Springs Road to Newtown Road; to Virginia Beach Boulevard to South Kentucky Avenue; and then to Interstate 264 until about 1 a.m.
Then, the truck was travelling east in the westbound lanes before crossing into the eastbound lanes to the Rosemont Road exit. The truck was exiting I-264 at Rosemont Road and heading south to Holland Road to South Plaza Trail to Princess Anne Road until about 2 a.m. The truck was then continuing to Newtown Road and then to Greenwich Road, where it would stop in the 5900 block.
A second truck will follow the same route early this morning to the Rosemont Road exit from I-264, then travel south on Rosemont Road to South Plaza Trail to Princess Anne Road to Dam Neck Road to Landstown Road and stop at the Dominion Power substation near the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.
The exact time for each road closure will be determined by traffic, weather and other conditions, the news release said.

Autobot or a decepticon?
Autobot or a decepticon?
In the Beach we have decepticons
I always had a thing for souped up yellow Camaros with black racing strips, but I digress - It would be good to have an Optimus Prime in town, but knowing the Beach City Council and their local business lobby shadow government ... we're probably getting more decepticons.
LOL!
I was thinking the same!
I should have looked before I posted
This truck is going to come up newtown to I-264. Drive down I-264 on the wrong side of the road to rosemont avenue.
Then wind it's way back down holland, South Plaza, and PA blvd BACK to newtown road????
Agreed
That path sounds crazy. What gives?!
Seen on the traffic cameras
Despite being on a trailer with a low center section the transformer looked MUCH taller than the tractor unit towing it. The trailer was so low the large number of supporting axles were all forward of and rearward of the transformer. I managed to watch the vehicle pull out of the west bound inspection station (where the toll plaza used to be) and bull through offset gaps in the median's concrete barriers. I then caught a glimpse of the vehicle in the Rosemont exit seconds before the camera operator adjusted the camera to an EXTREMELY wide angle.
Maybe vertical clearance
Perhaps the loads are too high to go under the I-264 overpass at Newtown Road and factors like openings in the I-264 median guardrails and what power lines and signals can be maneuvered past (or briefly moved out of the way).
Gosh
I sure hope they have some sort of police escort while driving down the wrong side of I-264.
Would be nice if the Pilot could report that. Or that some entrance/exit ramps or lanes might be closed.
