Easter egg hunts in Hampton Roads

It's time for that big bunny to hop into Hampton Roads with his colorful basket of treats, bringing fun for the little ones and photo ops for parents and grandparents. Here's a list to get you started looking for just the right egg hunt. Don't forget to check our local event guide as well as your local churches, rec centers, libraries and the rest of our listings.

Chesapeake
Chesapeake Eggstravaganza, egg hunt for ages 8 and younger, games, pony rides, Bonnet and Basket Contest, and more. Oh... and Peter Cottontail. 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at Chesapeake City Park, 900 Greenbrier Pkwy. Free. 382-6411

Easter Egg Hunt with the Big Bunny, plus face painting and more. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at Whites Old Mill Garden Center, 3133 Old Mill Road, Chesapeake. Free. 487-2300.

Greenbrier Mall, 1401 Greenbrier Pkwy, will host the big bunny Satruday  from noon to 6 p.m.  at the lower level of the mall’s center court . All young visitors will receive  a free kid’s meal at Abuelo’s. Professional photo packages  available starting at $17.  Call 424-7300.

South Norfolk Center, 1217 Godwin Ave., has two choice events for your little bunnies. On Saturday, ages 3-10 can enjoy a brunch with Peter Cottontail at 11 a.m. For $5 per person, kids brunch with the Big Bunny, enjoy games and have their photos taken with Pete. Then on April 9 at 4 p.m., ages 3-8 are invited to a free Easter Egg-a-licious that will include games and an egg hunt. Call 543-5721.

Dr. Clarence V. Cuffee Center, 2019 Windy Road, invites ages 3-12 for its Easter Egg Engagement  2p.m. Aaturday. The free event will offer an egg hunt, games, take home crafts and photos with the  Cuffee Bunny. Call 648-8549.

The Deep Creek Ruritan Club will sponsor an Easter egg hunt Saturday  from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its log cabin headquarters, 200 Luray Ave., behind the George Washington Highway fire station. The free event  includes arts and crafts . Snacks will be available.  

Chesapeake Square Mall, 4200 Portsmouth Blvd. ,  the Easter Bunny will have breakfast with children and their parents  8:30 a.m. Saturday  at the Piccadilly Cafeteria. Tickets are $5 for Kidgits  members and $6 for all parents and nonmembers. The price includes  breakfast,  photo sessions with the main bunny, face painting and a prize giveaway. Tickets should be purchased  only in advance from the mall office. The Bunny will be available  through April 3. Call 488-9639. 

Virginia Beach
Easter Egg Hunt, also meet the Easter Bunny, music, petting farm, hayrides and more. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Hunt Club Farm, 2388 London Bridge Road, Virginia Beach. Cost. 427-9520.

Easter Egg Hunt, for ages 5-10 with special egg hunt for ages 4 and younger. Also face painting, Easter Bunny visit and more. 2 p.m. Saturday. Taste Unlimited, 4097 Shore Drive, Virginia Beach. Free. 464-1566.

Easter Egg Hunt, and a visit by the Easter Bunny. For ages 1-5. Bring a basket. 10 a.m. Saturday at Bow Creek Recreation Center, 3427 Clubhouse Road, Virginia Beach. Sign up by 5 p.m. Friday. Cost. 431-3765.

Newport News
The Easter Bunny and the Great Egg Hunt, 10 a.m. Saturday at Lee Hall Mansion, 163 Yorktown Road, Newport News. For children up to age 12. Cost. 888-3371.


Hampton

Easter Eggstravaganza, featuring the Easter Bunny, egg hunts, crafts, food and more for ages up to 12. 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Sandy Bottom Nature Park, 1255 Big Bethel Road, Hampton. Cost. 825-4657.

Easter by-the-Bay E-G-G-stravaganza, egg hunt, Easter Bunny, face painting, games and more for ages 10 and younger. Noon to 3 p.m. Saturday. Strawberry Banks, 30 Strawberry Banks Blvd., Hampton. Free. 727-5002.

Suffolk
Eggstravaganza at Bennett's Creek Park, egg giveaway, pony rides, clowns, face painting, petting zoo with bunnies, chickens, sheep. Pictures with Peter Cottontail for a fee. Ages 10 and younger, 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, Bennett's Creek Park Road, Suffolk.
