Motion in the court of public opinion

Posted to: Editorials Opinion

Respectfully submitted this 3rd day of April 2010, come now the plaintiffs, the taxpayers of Virginia, and move this Honorable Court for an order restraining and enjoining the defendant, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli, from intentionally and negligently turning his office into a public nuisance.

1. Commencing on or about Jan. 16, defendant was sworn in and began filing lawsuits and dispensing public funds for said lawsuits in a manner injurious to plaintiffs' nerves, pocketbooks and reputations.

2. Under the mistaken belief that federal courts offer early-bird discounts, defendant Cuccinelli sued on or about March 23 to block provisions of the federal health care reform bill. These provisions are not scheduled to go into effect for four years. In so doing, defendant Cuccinelli has obligated himself and future attorneys general in a legal battle in which the commonwealth of Virginia has no standing, except on stamping feet. Further, defendant Cuccinelli may or may not have standing as an individual. His spokesman refuses to say whether the attorney general currently has health insurance courtesy of the taxpayer plaintiffs.

3. On or about Feb. 16, 2010, defendant Cuccinelli filed a petition asking the Environmental Protection Agency to declare global warming a public benefit and seeking permission to begin sand replenishment along Richmond's eastern border. Said petition undermines expectations of plaintiffs residing in Hampton Roads that they will be able to comfortably enjoy dry land without interference from politicians. It also and actually undermines Virginia Beach.

4. Defendant Cuccinelli has also caused offense to plaintiffs' good sense by hypothetically suggesting that the president of the United States is the love child of Vladimir Putin and Cher, thereby disqualifying him both for elected office and karaoke competitions.

5. On or about March 4, 2010, defendant ordered the presidents of public universities in the commonwealth of Virginia to encourage workplace discrimination against gay employees, liberal arts majors and vegans.

6. On or about five minutes ago, defendant threatened to challenge EPA requirements that automobiles be more fuel efficient because he thinks Mini Coopers are suspiciously "cute."

7. Plaintiffs are informed and believe that unless the defendant is restrained by order of this court, their good reputations will be diminished, thereby causing extreme mental anguish, including in the cranium of the governor.

8. Plaintiffs do hereby notify the court that they are representing themselves in this matter, as their attorney is booked on Fox News through 2013.

cucci

Yes I know how to spell his name, but I don't have enough respect for him or McD to do so. Those 2 will go down VA history as the worst AG and Gov we have ever seen, but for those of you who voted for them you knew this was what you were going to get. But you voted anyway, and now many of you are regretting that very vote. I wonder how long they will remain in office?????
I think Cucci is the love child of Sarah Palin and George Bush, and McD the love child of Pat Robertson and Minnie Mouse.

Go Ken Go

Thank you AG for not caving in to the socialists that run this paper. Thank you for looking out for my rights not to be tyrannized by my own government. Thank you for looking out for my labor instead of letting others steal it from me to give to those who do not and will not work.

Awesome

GREAT editorial.

Pilot Editors got it right

I couldn't agree more than I do with this editorial. Cuccinnelli is tilting at windmills and making our state a laughing stock. Like Gilmore's campaign to "repeal the car tax", Cuccinnelli will leave a sorry legacy for later leaders to deal with. Governor McDonnell, please tell your AG to stop this nonsense and get busy working on the problems we have in Virginia. If he is trying to make a name for himself in the eyes of the country, he is doing a great job, but that name is "Fool".

So true...

Whether you are for or against healthcare is not the point, it is ridiculous to say it was the AG job to sue the federal government because of state law. Is he also suing medicare and social security? But the real tipping point was the EPA suit. On what planet would having vehicles that are less fuel efficient be a good thing for anybody except maybe the oil companies and possibly the automakers? Right, Left or Upside down, who cares.. the man is an idiot and needs to go!

Nice.

Show a little more respect for an elected official. Just like Tim Kaine was my governor and Barack Obama is my president, Ken Cuccinelli is your Attorney General. Even the editorial page shouldn't stoop this low.

"respect"

In my book you have to earn respect and nothing Cucci or Mcd have done does so.

Go Get'em Ken!

I am so glad I voted for Ken as our AG!

An Editorial Straight From Tim Kaine and Associates....

Let me get this straight. The Pilot Editorial Staff is saying the the majority of Virginians are FOR Obamacare? Sorry guys, once again you've got it backwards. Most all of us are AGAINST it. Once again the Pilot does not let the FACTS interfere with an editorial.

Cute, but....

There is a conflict between the State law recently passed protecting Virginians from the health care mandate and the Federal new health care takeover law. That conflict can only be resolved in court.

Even if the AG was personally in full support of the Federal law, it would still be his job to file that suit, and to fail to do so would be malfeasance.

He doesn't get to choose which laws to enforce.
