Tax Day freebies put some fun into April 15

April 15 may be one of the most dreaded days of the year, but a number of businesses are doing their part to try to ease the pain.

Check our listing of local retailers who are giving consumers what they most desire on tax day -- a break.

Starbucks is giving away a free cup of coffee when you bring your own reusable mug on April 15. Details.

Some Subways are giving away free cookies. Check with your nearby Subway to see if they're participating.

McCormick & Schmick's has $10.40 dinner and drink specials in the bar. Every bar guest also will receive a $10.40 gift certificate good for later use, while supplies last.  Also, on Friday it's CPA appreciation day. Bring your business card to prove you're a tax preparer and get a free dessert with purchase of a meal, as well as a $10.40 gift certificate for your next visit. The seafood-restaurant chain has a location in Virginia Beach's Town Center. Details.

Cinnabon is giving out Tax Day Bites (aka Classic Bites) from 5 to 8 p.m. (We don't have any outlets in Hampton Roads, but if you're traveling you can find them in many airports.) Details.

Boston Market is offering a buy-one-plate, get-one-free coupon good from April 15-18.

MaggieMoo's is giving away slices of their new ice cream pizza from 3 to 7 p.m. (The nearest MaggieMoo's locations are in Williamsburg and Newport News.)

IHOP is allowing children under 12 to eat off their "Just For Kids" menu for free from 4 to 10 p.m. The promotion runs through April 30.

P.F. Chang's is offering 15 percent off food purchases for dine-in or take out. (Excludes alcohol and happy hour food and beverages.) Find P.F. Chang's in Virginia Beach's Town Center. Details.

Smokey Bones is offering a printable coupon good for a free appetizer with any purchase. Find Smokey Bones in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach.

A few non-restaurants also are offering tax-day specials. Among them:

Office Depot is offering free copies of your tax documents, up to 25 single-sided pages.

Hydromassage (found in some gyms and tanning salons in Hampton Roads) is giving away free massages today through Sunday at participating locations. They suggest calling ahead to make an appointment.

hey if you want to find out about free-bees and other deals you need to go to afrugalchick.com . She is on TV every Sunday morning on Channel 13.

Yesterday my wife got 3 boxes of diapers for $7.00 and the diapers were 8.00 per box....great deal.

I see it now...but no, I didn't look under 'entertainment' so am LOL. Somehow the subjects of 'taxes and entertainment' are never in the same sentence for most folks. Maybe next year, we could place elsewhere. Oh well, glad to find it eventually
