Cox to launch wireless service in weeks

Posted to: Business

“Very soon” is now in “coming weeks.”

Cox Communications was to have launched its wireless telephone service in Hampton Roads in March. Early ads and a website for the cable company’s Cox Wireless even said so.

March came. March went. In early April, Felicia Blow, a company spokeswoman in Chesapeake, said Cox was testing the service and would unveil it “very soon.”

In an e-mail sent Wednesday to consumers who registered on the Cox Wireless website, the company wrote: “Our public launch will be announced in the coming weeks.”

Poor cox sends me so many

Poor cox sends me so many ads for business and residential telephone service. Flowroute.com and Voip.ms sells SIP termination that takes care of my needs and costs me around $3 a month.

My new cell phone (still need to switch over to it) can do SIP I believe, so it should be possible to route phone traffic over Tmobile's 3G data network to the SIP provider thus skipping minute charges.

so what phones?

i guess if they're going to be a Sprint reseller, they'll be using CDMA 4G phones? Way to push your product Cox. Good thing your monopoly in this area is in TV, we can see that when you're in a competitive field, you don't know how to get the word out very well.

Sprint reseller

They are reselling service offered by Sprint, just like Virgin Mobile. I have an aircard that uses the Sprint network and I have been very impressed with speed & connection.

I had to take a pause for

I had to take a pause for the cause and look it up. Sprint owns Virgin Mobile USA. I was thinking, "I thought they were half owners of Verizon" but that's Vodafone. Crazy euro phone companies all up in our wireless.

Not Yet

"Very soon" and in "coming weeks" are short for we don't want to put out a date, because like when we said "March" we might blow it again and not make the new date. But we want any potential customers to WAIT and not sign up with some other company...

Well I waited through March AND April and finally re-upped my family's 4 phones with VERIZON... I really wanted to give COX a try - but they couldn't provide anything dependable. Wonder if thats a sign about just how "wonderful" their new service will be...

Would be nice to get some behind the scenes info on what's holding up the system...

Cox to launch Wireless Service

One would think that Cox would have tested their Wireless service prior to announcing that they were rolling it out in March. No thanks, I'll wait to see if the service is any good before I'll even think about trying them.

Unless I'm mistaken...

It's going to be service provided through an existing carrier. The spectrum is already full from what I understand.
