#6 First Colonial 7, #5 Cox 3

Righthander John Bowman won his seventh decision without a loss, scattering eight hits and striking out six as the Patriots topped Cox in a “Play for the Cure” game Friday at First Colonial.

Players, coaches and umpires sported pink in a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

T.J. Costen drew three walks and scored twice and Ryan Cook homered for the Patriots (14-4, 12-2), who snapped Cox’s nine-game win streak. The Falcons’ loss left Ocean Lakes alone atop the Beach District with one loss.

Avery Upshur tossed a two-hitter, striking out eight against the Comets as the Bookers continued a string of Eastern District upsets.

Upshur also had three hits, while teammate A.J. Brooks added a 3-for-4 performance for the Bookers (3-10 overall and district).

Justin Davis hurled a two-hitter to help the Pilots (11-7, 10-3) clinch an Eastern District playoff berth and create a three-way tie atop the Eastern District. Norview, Maury and Granby each have three district losses.

Norview’s K.W. Howard drove in two runs on two hits and Hunter Creef tripled and homered.

Girls soccer

#2 Ocean Lakes 2, #1 Cox 1

Kayla White scored with eight minutes remaining off a corner kick by Candace Shields as the Dolphins (10-0-2, 5-0-2) knocked off the Falcons.

Charley Martin had given Cox a 1-0 lead in the 61st minute, but the Dolphins responded moments later on a goal by Katisha Browne.

Allie Boubouheropoulos had a goal and assist for the Chiefs and keeper Sarah McGinnis recorded her seventh shutout.

Kharlton Belmar tallied 15 minutes in and the SunDevils held on to upset the Eagles. Kyle Lacroix and Coulton Watson combined for six saves.

Lions keeper Calvin Anderson saved a penalty kick with a minute left in overtime to preserve a tie with First Colonial. Anderson finished with 18 saves. Tallwood’s Chris Davis put in the tying goal with five minutes left to force overtime.
