Eastern District semifinal

Lake Taylor 1, Maury 0

Dino Canales rifled a 35-yard free kick into the right side of the goal early in the second half as the fourth-seeded Titans (9-5-2) upset the top-seeded Commodores (11-3-3) in an Eastern District semifinal Tuesday night at Powhatan Field.

Marco Bravo-Morales notched seven saves for Lake Taylor, which advanced to the district tournament final for the second consecutive year.

“These kids played with a lot of heart,” Titans coach Greg Foote said. “You have to give Maury credit – they’re a class act and they’re well-coached.”

Lake Taylor had lost 5-0 to the Commodores, the defending Eastern District tournament champion, in their regular-season meeting.

“We talked about it before the game and we wanted to try and play a good game,” Foote said. “And they did.”
