Tyon Ore’s sacrifice fly in the fifth plated Drew Williams for the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fifth as the Commodores (14-5) edged the Pilots (12-7) for the top seed in the Eastern District tournament that begins today.
Brian Bashara limited the Pilots to a run and two hits over seven innings. He struck out five.

Granby 4, Churchland 1
Christian Rivera scored two goals and the No. 2 seed Comets (14-3) advanced to next Wednesday’s Eastern District tournament title game against Lake Taylor.
Freshman Davin Field made eight saves for the Comets, whose Kyle Foote scored the first of three unanswered goals in the second half.

Andrew Clayton and Alex Baumgardner each scored a goal as the Hawks dashed the postseason hopes of the Grizzlies.
Great Bridge clinched the top seed in next week’s Southeastern District tournament. Hickory will be the No. 2 seed, followed by Oscar Smith, which earned the No. 3 seed with a 10-0 win over Deep Creek. Indian River locked up the fourth spot with a 3-0 victory over Western Branch on Tuesday.

Anna Davis scored seven minutes in to lift the third-seeded Comets (9-6-2) in an Eastern District tournament semifinal at Powhatan Field.
Jaime Grant notched eight saves for Granby, which will face top seed Maury in next Wednesday’s 5:30 p.m. final at Powhatan Field.
