Boys soccer

Southeastern District semifinals

Oscar Smith 4, Hickory 2

Southeastern District Player of the Year Richard Diaz scored two first-half goals and added two assists in a night of firsts for the Oscar Smith program at the Southeastern District semifinals on Wednesday.

Diaz and Stephen Melchor provided a 3-1 halftime lead as the Tigers (11-4-2) went on to defeat No. 2 seed Hickory for the first time in program history, earning the school’s initial appearance in the district tournament title match tonight at Grassfield. Oscar Smith also secured its first Eastern Region tournament berth with help from tonight’s foe, No. 1 seed Great Bridge.

Great Bridge 2, Indian River 1

Mac McCarter’s header off a corner kick with 24 minutes left proved decisive for the No. 1 seed Wildcats in a Southeastern District semifinal. Marcus Luster produced the tying goal for the Wildcats, who trailed 1-0 at halftime after a goal by Indian River's Davey McEwen.

Beach District semifinal

Princess Anne 3, Kellam 1

The No. 6 seed Cavaliers earned the first Eastern Region tournament appearance in program history on a goal by Trevor Nichols in the 67th minute of the Beach District semifinal.

Princess Anne battles Cox in tonight’s championship match at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

Girls soccer

Beach District semifinal

Ocean Lakes 2, Kempsville 1

Kayla White’s second goal in the 76th minute off a corner kick by Candice Shields earned the Dolphins a date with Cox in today’s 5:15 p.m. Beach District title match at the Sportsplex.
