VIRGINIA BEACH -- Nearly 20 years after her death, Reitha Sedel will take center stage at a local art gallery this summer.

Sedel’s artwork will be on display through mid-August at Richard Stravitz Fine Art Gallery, 1217 Laskin Road.

Sedel died in 1991. Her daughter, Gail , and sons, Jon and Bruce, are honoring her by trying to re-ignite interest in her work.

“She left us a huge body of work,” Gail Sedel said. “We thought it would be wonderful to reintroduce her back into the public eye.”

Reitha Sedel was a prominent artist in the area for more than 50 years. She was a portrait artist who painted in all media including acrylics, charcoal, pastels and water colors.

Sedel’s children approached the gallery with the idea to showcase their mother’s collection.

“We were really excited about the variety of work and the amount of work,” said Jean Muehlen , an assistant at the gallery.

An opening reception will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday . It’s free and open to the public. For more information, call 305-9411.

Terrific!

Congratulations to Jon, Bruce, and Gail for such a worthy endeavor. I knew your father very well, and I remember some of your mother's orginals in his dental office and in his home. I am sorry I never knew your lovely and talented mother, but I cannot wait to see her work displayed. Chris Hooper
