Boys basketball: Norcom's Finney-Smith narrows list to six
Norcom junior Dorian Finney-Smith has narrowed his list of colleges down to Virginia Tech, Virginia, Maryland, Florida, Wake Forest and Old Dominion.
"Coaches have been blowing my mom's phone up so we decided to make a list," he said. "That way coaches don't have to worry about me anymore but can now go after other people."
Finney-Smith, a 6-foot-7 forward, was the Associated Press' Group AAA Boys Basketball Player of the Year, the Virginia High School Coaches Association State Player of the Year and the All-Tidewater Player of the Year.
He also is one of the top prospects in the Class of 2011. He was named to the ESPN RISE All-American team and is ranked No. 17 nationally by MaxPreps.
Finney-Smith said interest picked up after he helped lead the Greyhounds to the Group AAA state basketball title this past winter. It's continued this spring during AAU basketball.
"I just want to find the best fit for me," said Finney-Smith, who averaged 19.7 points, 13 rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocks. "I'll probably decide by the beginning of the season."
