Chris Carlson covers Norfolk State football, Old Dominion women’s basketball, Norfolk Tides baseball and high schools for The Virginian-Pilot.

Background: Chris Carlson was born in Hartford, Conn. and went to Syracuse University, where he graduated in 2004 as a double-major in history and newspaper journalism. He spent five years at The Berkshire Eagle (Pittsfield, Mass.), where he won five Associated Press Sports Editors’ awards. He served internships at The Tampa Tribune and The Buffalo News. He’s an avid tennis fan who still plays and grew up idolizing Andre Agassi, though his parents never allowed him to grow out his hair. He played tennis in high school (not as well as Agassi, obviously) and soccer (in which he was far worse).
