Football: Bayside's Nicholson stock rising

Last week Rivals.com's came out with its top recruits in the country.

On that list of the top 250 recruits was Bayside cornerback Demetrious “Tre” Nicholson who is ranked No. 101 overall and No. 4 at his position.

Nicholson, 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, is the "total package" says Marlins coach Darnell Moore.

For starters, Nicholson has two great numbers. He’s run 4.43 in the 40 and he has a 3.6 grade-point average.

Moore actually thought Nicholson should have been ranked higher.

"He should be rated higher than 101,” he said. “All of the coaches will tell you that not many kids can do the things that he does. So I was disappointed that he wasn’t in the top 100. But once it’s all said and done they will see they probably won’t find two players better than him."

Right now Nicholson has offers from Boston College, Clemson, Connecticut, Duke, East Carolina, Louisville, Maryland, Michigan, North Carolina, N.C. State, Penn State, Rutgers, Stanford, Virginia, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.

"He’s also got more schools looking who haven’t offered him yet like Florida and Tennessee," Moore said. "They would like to have him but they want to wait until he comes visit their campus."

Last season he had 33 receptions for 845 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also had nine interceptions.

Moore said the best thing about Nicholson is he's a “great kid.”

"This kid will not get you fired on the field or off the field,” Moore said. “Some of these kids may be all-world but they’ll also get you fired because of what they do off the field. He won’t get you fired either way."
