Man who bought F-14 machine gun gets 3 years

A former museum director was sentenced Monday to three years in prison after pleading guilty in U.S. District Court to buying a rotary machine gun used on F-14 fighter jets.

Wayne Miller, 49, of Maryland, admitted that he went to Oceana Naval Air Station in 2005 and bought the machine gun from a Navy chief petty officer in charge of decommissioning aircraft.

Miller, who worked then as an executive director of the Aviation Hall of Fame in Teterboro, N.J., was planning on opening a flight simulator business.

Two others were arrested and convicted in the case, but prosecutors labeled Miller "the driving force behind the conspiracy."

Federal authorities learned that the Navy man, Matthew Sutton, was stealing Navy aircraft parts and selling them. Sutton pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months in prison. A third person, Jody Goucher, who acted as the middle man, also pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four months in prison.

Miller's lawyer, Arenda Allen, told the court that Miller's "visions of grandeur" in creating a "super-duper" flight simulator business went awry when he began buying F-14 parts, including the machine gun and a tail fin, on the black market.

The jet-mounted machine gun, which was operational, weighs 300 pounds and can fire 6,000 rounds a minute.

Miller "never intended any harm or evil to anyone," Allen said in a court filing.

plus always more to the story

Bet there was more to the story than he simply bought the gun and whatever else he wasn't caught doing. It did say he was the main player.

NOT ABOUT RACE

Some people really will find any way possible to bring race into the picture even if its totally irrelevant to the story. To be more on point (unlike this poster) I am guessing the guy who bought the gun got 3 years because he was in possession of a "weapon of mass destruction". Even though he claimed his reason for wanting it was for his new business, maybe the judge/jury didn't buy it. Six months for selling military equipment (that the rest of us payed for by the way, so he's really stealing from all of us) is pitiful to say the least.

Something missing...

This is like a drug dealer getting a few months for selling drugs and his customer getting several years for buying them???

racist coment

The accusation that the liberal VP only puts pictures of black criminals in the paper is ludicrous.

Pilot still refuses

To post pictures of a Black Vice President. It has only been in the past year and a half they posted pictures of a Black President.

Why does the Pilot continue to be so blatantly racist???

They went so far as to

They went so far as to extend the ability to buy the newspaper with the front page Obama wins cover story.

Not every story has pictures, and quite a bit of it is just AP newswire reprints.

Don't blame them cause lots of local criminals look one way or another.

No Pitctures

They only put pictures of Black Men in the paper when doing stories because it is a deliberate attempt to deem them monsters. Either you are new to this area or you are a tourist? Because it don’t take a much brain matter to realize that fact. What about the guy who killed his wife in Franklin? Or any other murder who’s white? You will never see his face with the story. So Mr. Va Pilot Guy…Either stop putting up black faces only or be fair and put photos of all races. Because it’s quite obvious you think no one notices this. And six months for the seller is a joke. It makes the effort worth it if you know what to do with the money (Save It), six months later you can relax and job seek at your own pace! Gees!

I can see why you call yourself "Redneck Rampage"

I can honestly see why you call yourself "Redneck Rampage", as there are multiple spelling and grammar errors. Your comments are completely pointless and has no merit at all. Do yourself a favor. Go back to school, get your GED/diploma, learn how to properly read and write, and then maybe, you will be able to write like an adult, and make educated comments.

Is it possible the paper

Is it possible the paper does not always have the picture to post?

Moderator, How did I get to

Moderator,

How did I get to the moderator approval level? I haven't posted anything against the rules. Was it done automatically when I tried to post a filtered word? If so, I will tone it down.
