Northam's first menhaden meeting set
The new menhaden fish working group formed by Norfolk Sen. Ralph Northam (D) will hold its first meeting at 1 p.m. on Juy 15 at the offices off the Virginia Marine Resources Commission offices in Newport News.
Menhaden are filter feeding fish found along the East Coast that are commercially harvested for everything from pet food to health supplements.
Efforts by Northam and other lawmakers to shift management authority of the fish from the General Assembly to the VMRC have been unsuccessful.
Future meetings of the panel will be held Sept. 23 in Fredericksburg and Nov. 10 in Richmond.
