A 42-year-old Norfolk man was sentenced Monday to 23 years in federal prison as a repeat drug offender who admitted selling multiple pounds of heroin, cocaine and marijuana.
Dion C. Cameron pleaded guilty to distributing more than 100 pounds of heroin, 9 pounds of cocaine and more than 37 pounds of marijuana over the past 10 years. He also admitted carrying a firearm during a drug-trafficking crime.
Cameron and associates made numerous trips to New York to pick up the drugs and then returned to distribute them primarily in Portsmouth and Norfolk but also in Hampton and Newport News, according to a news release issued by the U.S. attorney's office.
Court records in the case say Cameron was a longtime drug dealer who could have faced life in prison if convicted of all the charges in the case. In a plea agreement with the government, Cameron pleaded guilty to two counts of a 10-count indictment.

Upside down justice
I agree with the previous poster about our justice system being screwed up. My boy, my beloved only son, was shot in the back by a coward. The killer got THREE years and some probation when he plea bargined for a reduced sentence. The overworked and underpaid PA was more than willing.
Our justice system is unjust in some cases and needs to be fixed. This is so sad.

23 years
23 years and he didn't kill anyone. Some people convicted of murder get less time than this. The justice system is all screwed up.
What a shame
I bet he was just turning his life around, too...
Turning his life around?
"...pleaded guilty to distributing more than 100 pounds of heroin, 9 pounds of cocaine and more than 37 pounds of marijuana over the past 10 years." Turning a few deals is more like it...
