Assistant coach update
It will probably be mid-July before a new coach is in place, Blaine Taylor told me the the other day. State hiring procedures and the transition in athletic directors has slowed down the process, he said.
Taylor declined to name any candidates, but among those believed to be in the running is former Monarch Drew Williamson.
The delay shouldn't affect summer recruiting, Taylor said. Only three coaches can be on the road at the same time. Taylor, Jim Corrigan and Rob Wilkes will handle the July evaluation period. Director of basketball ops Joel Hines can mind the store back home.
Meanwhile, the Monarchs are looking for two road games to fill out the 2010-11 schedule, Taylor said.
"Last year, those games ended up being Dayton and Georgetown," he said.
Taylor hopes to have a contract for one game done by mid-July, with the second coming later in the month, before coaches take their August vacations.
"Once I get on the road in July and can get face to face with these coaches we should be able to work out something," he said.
It promises to be a busy month.
