A judge sentenced a Virginia Beach man to serve eight years for a robbery and stabbing at an Oceanfront hotel in January.
Circuit Judge Stephen C. Mahan on Tuesday gave Mitchell Lee Laws 25 years for conspiracy, malicious wounding, and conspiracy, according to Macie Pridgen, a spokesman for the commonwealth's attorney's office. The judge suspended 17 years of that time, provided Laws, 24, is on good behavior for 25 years after his release.
Laws was one of two people charged in the Jan. 3 attack at the Dolphin Inn. He, Ashanti Felicia Darden and another man were in a hotel room when Laws and the other man started fighting, according to prosecutors. Laws smashed a bottle against the man's face and told Darden to take money from him. They fled with $220.
Darden pleaded guilty to the same charges and was sentenced in June.
