Beach's consumer affairs program returns on limited basis

Posted to: Community News Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH -- The city’s consumer affairs program will continue to function on a limited basis.

Beach officials stopped funding the three investigators for the program as of June 30 because of budget cuts.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Harvey Bryant has named Julie Pickell, a legal investigator with consumer affairs training, to continue some of the program’s functions.

“Obviously, one person cannot do the work, or handle the breadth of cases that three investigators have done for years,” Bryant said recently in a news release.

Pickell will continue investigating fraud cases and helping put consumers in touch with local and state agencies.

She also will expand consumer education and provide biweekly updates with consumer fraud alerts and product recalls on vbgov.com, according to the release.

Citizens with consumer complaints or requests for consumer education can contact Pickell at 385-6373 .
