Crawford Pkwy. along Portsmouth seawall closed

Posted to: News Portsmouth Traffic - Transportation

PORTSMOUTH

Crawford Parkway between Swimming Point and the Holiday Inn site will be closed to traffic for about 90 days, beginning today, because of a seawall construction project.

The work includes replacing and raising the level of about 1,100 feet of the seawall there and tearing out the two lanes of the street closest to the water for a park.

That will take Crawford Parkway permanently down from a four-lane divided road to two lanes, according to Youssef Khalil, the city's senior civil engineer.

The project is expected to be completed in 10 months.

Water runs both ways

The intersection of Dinwiddie and North will be something to keep an eye on after this project is complete. Heavy rains flood Olde Towne more often than high tides. A higher seawall will keep some of the river out but it's also going to make the basin that is Olde Towne that much deeper!

are you an engineer? do you

are you an engineer? do you think the cities engineers haven't done studies or considered that? I'm definitely gonna take your "opinion" over the city engineers expertise.

infalability?

Effingham Fire Station

uggghhh true.....but that in

uggghhh true.....but that in all honesty was an outside engineer

The Idea of a Park overlooking the harbor is great With a

BIG EXCEPTION. Who do you think is going to congregate in that park at night? Unless the city budgets for full time security at night during the warmer months, there will be vagrants and drug deals and other mischief. And... I guess the city has written off swimming point because if you raise the seawall I don't see how Swimming point will protected.

And where has the Pilot been in reporting 2 armed robberies in Old Towne?

On Thursday July 8th around midnight 2 young Black males armed with large caliber weapons were in the process of robbing a man at gun point when another friend of ours came upon the scene and they robbed her too. This was at the corner of North and Court.

On Friday July 23rd at around 10:30 pm a couple on their way home were robbed at gun point at the same intersection of North and Court.

watch your step

Who do you think is going to congregate in that park at night?

This park, like the rest of the parks in Olde Towne, will just be another grass-covered bathroom for people's dogs. Dog walking should be limited to one park so that the others are usable for picnics on blankets and other more sanitary activities. Dog owners in Olde Towne shouldn't be able to ruin every park with their poopy puppies!

my guess henry about no news

On crime downtown is the powers to be don't want it reported since all their hopes and dreams and aspirations lie on Downtown/OldTowne. A lot of bad press does not get people Downtown to eat, shop, etc.

OT crime is on the rise

The vagrants are causing quite a few problems this year aside from the usual troubles that come from the kids being out of school for the summer. One of them recently drowned another in the river, just to touch on the subject. There's also been a massive increase in the thefts of bicycles this summer. I'm not talking about bicycles just leaned up against the back of a building, I'm talking about bikes secured with braided steel cables and bike locks.

If you live in Olde Towne, you should consider a few options for self defense. Armie Navie has pepper spray for about $8 and Hancock Driving School is also teaching a course that will qualify you for a concealed handgun permit. I don't know how much the course is but the court only charges $15 for their part of the process.

oh my.......crime

oh my.......crime downtown?.....you dont say?

is their anywhere that crime doesnt happen?

and now its a conspiracy because an armed robbery happened and it wasnt reported.......if pilot reported EVERY crime in Hampton Roads every day there would be NO space for advertisements.....but yeah your right ring442......its gotta be a conspiracy by the "powers that be".....it couldnt possibly be that there was just more newsworthy stories right?

typical PSO supporter.....always the conspiracy theorist

i hav to give you credit larry

You managed to get you bias against the PSO in an article about the seawall. I am not a PSO supporter as you say. If you don't think cities have some control over media articles about them you are naive or in denial. As for conspiracy theorist your homework this week is to find the missing 400k drug seizeure house in Portsmouth and give us a report on what happened to it.
