Cyclist hit by car in Norfolk, taken to hospital

NORFOLK

A man was taken to a hospital after being hit by a car this morning at Tidewater Drive and Virginia Beach Boulevard, police said.

The crash was reported about 9:45 a.m., said Chris Amos, police spokesman. The man was thought to have been riding a bicycle.

The police fatality team was sent to the scene to investigate because the man's injuries were thought to be life-threatening, Amos said. A short while later, police were told that the man is expected to recover. 

The northbound lanes of Tidewater at the intersection were closed for a short time while police investigated the crash.
