Dominion's net income triples in second quarter

Posted to: Business Virginia

RICHMOND

Energy provider Dominion Resources says a sale of its assets and higher electric demand helped its net income more than triple in the second quarter.

The Richmond company says it earned $1.76 billion, or $2.98 per share, for the three months ended June 30. That's up from $454 million, or 76 cents per share, a year ago.

But Dominion says its operating earnings grew more than 5 percent to $426 million during the period. It uses operating earnings that exclude certain items as its primary performance measurement.

Revenue fell about 2 percent to $3.3 billion for the quarter from $3.41 billion in the year-ago quarter.

Dominion produces electricity, natural gas and oil and has the nation's largest natural gas storage system. It operates in 14 states and serves retail customers in a dozen states.

wind farming off the Virginia coast

For all you people that seem to confuse the little wind mill and solar panel in your back yard as wind mill farming.I got news for you. type this into your browser. wind mill farming off the Virginia coast. they are already half way there with starting this operation.all they need is a few more permits and away we go.and unless dominion buys all the rights to this project and many others like it. then I would say that dominion stock will drop like a rock in just a few years. even tho they will still need dominions existing infrastructure to supply the consumer for the time being anyway. so don't fall for the illusion that they have the only monopoly on electricity.these farms are big and can generate large amounts of electricity.and is cheaper then coal to produce.so there are realistic alternatives to creating cheaper electricity.

When my air went out I went

When my air went out I went out and purchased 4 portable roll around air units. 2 that were heat pumps and two that were not. They dehumidify better than my central ac and they cool fine enough for me. My electric bill last month was $60, lower than any month in 20 years at the same place.

not buying it

Not buying the excuse of an old house. My house was built in 1910, the attic was converted to a third story, so I don't have a great deal of insulation..... you are cooling your house to a temperature that is colder than what you heat your house to in the winter.

Yeah

75 downstairs, 95 upstairs . . .

im not buying it either

It must feel awful to have slipped up and let the cat out of the bag. 4500KW and preaching conservation? You may as well hang up your choir robe that you were using at the church of global warming. Perhaps you should consider, in your redistributive mindset, that IF we lived in the collectivist society that you pine for, you have used up your share and that of 3 other families. As you preach selflessness, generosity, and stewardship. I call it phony, and fraudulent.

My take is that if you want to use 450KW and have the income to pay for 4500KW GOOD FOR YOU, that's what freedom is about!!! However using 3X the energy of your avg neighbors and thumbing your nose at them by preaching lifestyle changes that you yourself refuse, is silly, but typical of the intellectual progressive philosophy.

wish i could still afford pizza. line crosser.let alone this power bill.as you may of noticed I worked for many years with a subcontractor for dominion. I always had alot of respect for dominion.they always keep me going somehow.but anyway i just have a question for you or maybe you can pass it on. why would any company.in this day and age. with the economy like it is.people sleeping on the street.family's living in apartments with no lights or air condition. no food to feed there children. why would any company do this? release a statement telling the whole world how well they are doing and how great the stock is e.t.c right in the middle of the peak season and consumers are paying the most.that to me is not smart at all.I'm not picking on you buddy I'm sure you are out there working hot and hard today. guess i just want a slice of pizza.ha!ha!

investigate this

Dominion power's construction department needs to take a real good look at the sub contractors they have used for years installing there underground and overhead power lines.there is a hole lot of wrong going on in this area.and when it is brought to dominion powers attention.for some reason you are escorted out the gate.So I will leave the rest of what is really going on for you to decide. But I know for a fact that your power bill could be cheaper. Or at the least the bonases could be bigger.mmmmm??

theenforcer

Couple of years ago Dominion sent one of these "sub-contractors" to fix the street light in front of my house. Apparently it was an underground problem because they dug up between the sidewalk and the street and they cracked a waterline causeing a slow leak. I called Dominion and was conpletely blown off and ended up having to pay for the repairs myself. They wouldn't even tell me the name of the sub-contractor, so I know exactly what you're saying. Legalized Crooks!!
