Five Guys opening in Ghent on 21st Street

Norfolk residents living in or near the 201 Twenty One apartment and retail complex at 21st Street and Llewellyn Avenue won't go hungry.

The landlords have signed their first tenants for the ground-level retail space: a Subway sandwich shop and Five Guys Burgers and Fries fast-food restaurant, said John Katsias, the leasing agent for the development.

The fastest-growing restaurant chain in America last year was Five Guys.

Five Guys has six other locations in Hampton Roads and one in Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Subway has numerous locations.

The two restaurants are taking about a quarter of the 16,000 square feet of retail space at 201 Twenty One.

An art gallery also has shown interest in taking space there, Katsias said. He said he hopes to have other tenants signed soon.

Good food, simple strategy

The food is great and their marketing is working well for them too. Go to any Five Guys and just see the mix of people: all walks of life and income level. Definitely not what I'd call daily fair but when you want an excellent burger and fries and are willing to spend a little more for it, Five Guys fits the bill perfectly.

five guys

five guys is good but is not a 6 dollar burger good!! I would rather go to a sit down restaruant and spend 30 dollars than pay 25 to feed two people there at 5 guys!

There goes the neighborhood

I thought they were trying to market those apartments to upscale yuppies. Can't picture them frequenting these types of establishments or excepting the class of people they cater to. I thought people rented these expensive apartments to get away from the type of people these businesses attract. Am I wrong?

They rent the expensive

They rent the expensive apartments to impress the girls for the night. All other nights they be at Taco Bell.

You can rent in Manhattan for less than that ugly 201 21 building.

Latest story is there were waves of water crashing into the 1st floor retail there after the storm the other day. Nice.

yes

Yuppies love this place. When I lived in DC it's all anyone spoke of when considering burgers.

Just a note...

Funny how most of you commented on this story right around lunchtime. Franchise or no, somebody is hungry. ;)

that's when the story came on line

10:46 a.m. Just when everyone is firing up the grills and deep fryers.

Good news, everyone.

Five Guys - the third best burger in the US (In-N-Out Burger and Whataburger being 1 and 2, respectively).

Actually, there's In-N-Out and then there's everyone else. But I'll gladly pay to go to Five Guys in Ghent at lunch.

all american burger in massapequa is the best

All American Burger in Massapequa on Long Island is the best burger in the US. Not a chain - you have to be right there to enjoy it, so it's no surprise those 'name' burgers get the kudos.

All American Burger

Hey Commonsense Guy

I lived in Farmingdale and know the place well...I can almost taste those scrumptious burgers now!
