Hampton Roads to get $9 million in Homeland Security grants

Posted to: News

Hampton Roads will receive about $9 million in Homeland Security grants, Gov. Bob McDonnell’s office announced today.

About $7.3 million of the funds will be used for the region’s Urban Areas Security Initiative, and $1.69 million will be used for coordination planning for catastrophic events.

The money is coming from the Homeland Security Grant Program, the Nonprofit Security Grant Program and the Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Grant Program.

The security funds will be used for training first responders, buying equipment and improving overall communications, a news release says.

Funds also will be used for critical infrastructure protection; statewide sheltering; anti-terrorism training and incident management; chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, explosive and HAZMAT capabilities; Homeland Security exercises and evaluation; citizen and community preparedness; communications; health and medical readiness; and other issues, the release says.

Central Virginia’s Urban Areas Security Initiative will receive $2.6 million, the Metropolitan Medical Response System will receive $1.9 million and the Citizen Corps Program will receive $282,000, the release says.

Northern Virginia’s Urban Areas Security Initiative will receive $59 million to use throughout the region, which includes the D.C. area and parts of Maryland.

Just in time

Convicted felon Byron Williams loaded up his mother's Toyota Tundra with guns, strapped on his body armor & headed to SanFran late Saturday night with one thing in mind: to kill workers at the ACLU and an environmental foundation "because" he was "angry at left-wing agenda items". And just this year, anti-govt John Bedell opened fire at the Pentagon; anti-IRS Joe Stack flew an airplane into a building; anti-govt Jerry Kane & his son killed 2 police officers in Arkansas; and the Hutaree Militia terrorist plot was uncovered. Last year, James von Brunn opened fire at the Holocaust memorial museum; Richard Poplawski gunned down 3 police officers in PA, in part because he feared the non-existent "Obama gun ban"; and Dr Tiller was assassinated. In 2008, Jim David Adkisson opened fire in a Unitarian church in TN, in part because of his "hatred of the liberal movement."

The Right is heating up something fierce.

ACLU

Yet the ACLU is more worried about these idiots rights so it makes it even harder to thwart future attacks. It looks like the left is heating up something fierce too.

Glenn - excellent example of equivalency ....

... there. A string of murders and terrorist activities by well-armed "anti-govt" people and glenn upchucks "ACLU!". Sigh.

re: aclu

You are right about one thing. The left is 'heating up' to protect this world from the radical right.

Say What ?

"Citizen Corps Program will receive $282,000"......smells like ACORN

it's not acorn

It's McD and Cucci's campaign funds.
