RICHMOND
Gov. Bob McDonnell is asking Virginians to buy local food and beverages.
McDonnell recently sent a letter to all Virginia business and industry leaders touting his "Choose the Commonwealth" initiative, asking them to seek out Virginia products. McDonnell said he features Virginia wines and other locally grown and produced food and beverage products during events at the Executive Mansion.
McDonnell recognized the Northern Virginia Technology Council, which has a Virginia-only wine policy for all its events.
Agriculture Secretary Todd Haymore asked residents to share Virginia's wine and specialty foods with friends and colleagues here and abroad.
Haymore will accompany McDonnell to Europe next week to promote Virginia wine and food exports.

Many "Virginia" Wines are excellent!
Many "Virginia" Wines are excellent! Especially Williamsburg Winery and many others!
WHY would we not want to support our "neighbors", even if the price is a bit more?
California is bankrupt anyway! Why support the Celebs's economy, they certainly don't?
My absolute favorite wine is from Santiago, Chile..but I've been buying Virginia wines the past few years.....it helps all of us!
Wine!
Wine!! I'll drink Virginia wine as soon as they bring back Sly Fox and Sands Peach, ahhhhhh Ambrosia.
Reality check
I will be buying whatever is on sale with a double off coupon on senior discount day.
HORSE RACING
If he is serious about new business, horse racing in VA will bring in more thhan $300Million per year.
Slots would bring in a $Billion.
Off shore drilling would add $Billions to the VA economy.
Get serious about business, stop the lip-service, create jobs.
Thank you
Time will tell
Time will tell if the good Gov isn't just spewing fluff. Not too long ago, Virginia gave in to the big vinyards and distributors to STOP the flow of Virginia wines throughout the state. Our good ol' ABC passed a reg that states vinyards are not allowed to sell to businesses directly, they must go through a distributor. Those distributors don't deal with smaller vinyards because they can't provide the thousands of cases they would need to sell across the state. Plus, the larger vinyards (outside of the state) influence the distributors to carry more of their product and effectively close out the Virginia wineries. So, if our Governor wants us to buy more wines produced in our state, he better get the ABC reg changed back. And he better do it fast because this ABC reg is causing financial hardship on our vineyards. Their only outlets are festivals and people going to their vineyards.
I Like Being Able to Agree on Something About Governor McDonnell
He and his wife are doing a fine job of promoting Virginia wines. For those of you who haven't tried Virginia wines in awhile you owe it to yourself to do so. There are some awesome wines being produced here now. Gone are the days in the 80's and early to mid 90's when Virginia wines weren't so great.
There are world class wines here now such as our Viogner and Cabernet Franc just to name a couple of styles. Be like the Governor and his wife and insist on buying Virginia products. It is probably one of the most patriotic things any of us can do whether you like his politics or not.
Cab Franc
You are absolutely correct!! The weather conditions for the Cab Franc in 2007 were ideal! A newer winery has opened in the Charlottesville area (Greenwood)known as Pollak. It is a very nice place to bring a lunch and every wine on their tasting list is worth the trip. If you wanted to make a weekend trip of it, I recommend the Lafayette Inn in Standardsville. Dinner reservations are a must! A gourmet breakfast is included in the price of the room.
Virginia wine
When Virginia starts producing decent wine, then I will start drinking it.
That would be now
That would be now, so start drinking.
Support Virginia cannabis growers too!
License it and tax it. I wonder how many millions of dollars leave the state each year for imported cannabis. When are Virginians going to sober up and look at the facts?
