New managers, same good food at Virginia Barbeque

CARROLLTON

Virginia Barbeque, across from Eagle Harbor on U.S. 17, has new managers. Mark and Julia Peterson now own the local franchise and have kept prices the same or lowered them.

Prices on the original Virginia BBQ sandwich and the Classic N.C. BBQ sandwich have been reduced by $1. They are bargains at $3.99 because the rolls are loaded with meat.

They've also lowered the price of the Texas Beef Sandwich by 50 cents. Both the all beef hot dog and the chicken barbecue sandwich are 40 cents less. I don't know of many places where you can get chicken barbecue.

My husband and I enjoyed our meal in the very clean and attractive eatery. He had a half rack of ribs ($9.99) that included two sides and two sweet cornbread muffins. He selected green beans and roasted red potato salad. The potato salad was good, even if it wasn't the kind I'm used to.

I had a Carolina barbecue sandwich with coleslaw and my roll didn't get soggy!

They have family specials, such as a pint of pork barbecue that includes two one-pint of sides, four pieces of cornbread and four regular rolls for $16.99. Catering packages are available as well.

Julia and Mark are just plain people who want others to know they're in a hard-to-see location.

Virginia Barbeque is in the Shoppes at Eagle Harbor, but you won't see it from the road. Look for the Bojangles sign on the right. The barbecue is on the far end.

For you people with know since of direction coming across the James River Bridge from Hampton just keep straight on Rt. 17 surprise you come to Carrolton Va. Barbecue great food great location.

Carrollton.....

The Carrollton Bojangles is about a mile or so south of the James River Bridge across from the Bloom Grocery Store. I am interested in trying the VA BBQ restaurant with the new owners/managers.

Can't wait to stop in and try it out.

franchise

I was disappointed to see that this is a franchise - no different than a person owning a Taco Bell --- I was further disappointed to see on the company website that the meat is sent to the stores already smoked and pulled - I wish there were more independent barbecue restaurants doing their own thing which would give us a true flavor of the craft and not some large-scale manufactured food shipped across the state or across the world.

Drive a little and enjoy a lot!

I agree that it's shameful how much restaurant food is prepared ahead en mass and trucked in. I'm accustomed to the "real thing" when it comes to BBQ. You might want to come visit us here in Elizabeth City next time you get a hankering for the pig. We have a little place on South Griffin Street here in town called BOB-B-Q that still makes good old Eastern North Carolina pulled pork que the way you remember it. Come see us soon!

Contact information is there...

Perhaps everyone could read the information under the photograph? All of the contact information, including the website for the restaurant...

It's true...

The information people was in the sidebar all along. The photo's cutline includes tips on locating this specific franchise from the road. (You can't. Look for the Bojangles first. Virginia Barbeque is at the far end of the shops.) Is that information really that difficult to notice on the story? Maybe we should consider a new story page design that makes the sidebar element more prominent. Would that help?

it's true now

I just took a new look under the picture and found the full address and website. That was not there at 1;30 AM.
Neither was the new heading at the top of present article that says Carrolton. Peace.

Deb

I don't exactly know what you mean by the sidebar. But I see that Carrolton has now been placed at the artilcles heading as it should have been. Believe me, it was absemt from the original review. Hard to use any cutline tips if you don't know what city you are in. The Route 17 reference(the only St. ref) also goes through Portsmouth ,Chesapeake and N.C.

I have noticed that on a rare occassion the Pilot will correct an allerted online article without an acknowlegement for having done so. That's what appears to have tken place here, and it just leads to more confusion.
