N.C. ice cream truck drivers clash; one charged

COROLLA, N.C.

One ice cream truck driver is accused of beating up another ice cream truck driver Thursday in Corolla.

The two trucks were rolling along with the happy music playing when they stopped on Whalehead Drive, said Lt. Jason Banks with the Currituck County Sheriff's Office.

Witnesses said Christopher Schurr, 31, of Poplar Branch, got out of his truck and slugged the other driver, Artem Vladimirovich, 20, of Kill Devil Hills. Schurr was charged with simple assault. Vladimirovich was treated and released.

Schurr said in the police report that Vladimirovich cut him off while the two trucks were making rounds in the Corolla neighborhood.

Schurr is 5 feet, 9 inches tall, weighing 280 pounds. Vladimirovich is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 150 pounds.

I am not advocating fighting or violence as ways to normally solve disputes, but whatever happened to the days when a man could punch another in the nose in a dispute and not make newspaper headlines.....or involve a 911 call.....or involve civil suits. The biggest deterrent back then for punching someone in the nose was that you might just be punched back. Of course, the pulling of guns and weapons was almost unheard of back then in such disputes. So it looks like much has changed with time. But it seems that we had far less violence back then than now, for whatever reason.

I'm tempted to try to come up with all new double meanings, puns, jokes, etc., but I'm ready to admit I'm outclassed here. However, there are times when I'm ready to commit great bodily harm on the guy who invariably comes by 15 minutes before mealtimes, and stirs up the neighborhood kids. "Mommy, Daddy, PLEEEEEZE! I promise I'll eat my vegetables,Just one cone? PLEEEZE???"

When I was a kid, it was the kids fighting to get in line first. The ice cream business must be really competitive. Our local guy plays Turkey In The Straw...man I hate that song.

Eliminate ice cream trucks.

Ice cream is available in every grocery and convenience store. These stupid trucks troll neighborhoods with their incessant repetitive Muzak that is irritating. They disturb the peace and quiet to sell a product that is readily available like any other food product. Plus, no one knows the character of the driver who is trolling the neighborhood and chatting up the kids.
