HAMPTON

One man is dead after a police-involved shooting Thursday.

Shortly after 11 a.m., a Rite Aid pharmacy in the 200 block of Fox Hill Road was robbed of prescription medication, said Cpl. Paula Scheck, police spokeswoman.

About 25 minutes later, Hampton emergency communications was notified that officers were involved in a shooting at an apartment complex near the Rite Aid.

Police said they found a man matching the robber's description in the complex's parking lot, but as officers approached, he brandished what appeared to be a handgun, and officers fired at him. Police determined the man's weapon was a BB gun.

The 46-year-old Hampton man died at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of next of kin.
