State Police will step up patrols this weekend

Posted to: News Virginia

Virginia State Police will increase patrols during the Independence Day holiday weekend to look for drivers who are drunk or have been using drugs.

Their goal, a news release said, is to reduce fatalities. Nine people died during last year's holiday weekend, and troopers arrested 129 people on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

During their safety campaign, Operation Combined Accident Reduction Effort, or C.A.R.E., troopers also will be looking for speeding and seat-belt or child-restraint violations, the release says.

The enforcement campaign begins at 12:01 a.m. today and will continue through midnight on Monday, the release said.

During last year's holiday weekend, State Police investigated 563 crashes, wrote 7,398 speeding tickets and issued 2,140 reckless driving citations. More than 900 tickets were written for seat-belt or child-safety-restraint violations. They helped more than 2,300 drivers.

Be circumspect!

Remember, all these officers are sacrificing their own holiday time with their families, and are not likely to take kindly abusivedrivers who talk trash to them when stopped. Be kind to them, they might just be mad about having to work, and take it out on YOU!

Ummmm....

They choose their profession, not to mention they are servants to the public good. Words can't do justice to their sacrifice, let’s keep it perspective though.

Although it my cost a little overtime, this effort is very profitable for the state or they wouldn't do it. Kudos... Safely? LOL...More like Cha-ching!!!

I'll be on the beach with a non-descript red solo cup. If my beach cruiser had a seatbelt I’d wear it.

Happy Birthday America!!! Be safe everyone, don't become a statistic!

great news

lock all them drunks who drive , up ,

Also,

not to mention those who drive down.

what they're really saying is

They can't reduce anything. They just need more personnel to respond to the accidents once they happen because more traffic is on the roads.

Was thinking

I was thinking about this yesterday...Why not make a BAC detector standard in all automobiles. This would reduce the DUI's!If you are drunk your car will not start. Then it came to me....It would cost a lot of people a lot of money by doing this. Here is a list that I came up with of the people that would be affected by this idea.

Lawyers, Courts, Insurance Companies, Jails, etc.....
