Tides beaten on road as Gwinnett pounds 14 hits

GWINNETT, GA.

Gwinnett's Mitch Jones went 3 for 3 and hit his 15th home run Tuesday night as the Braves battered four Norfolk pitchers for 14 hits in a 9-4 victory.

Braves DH Barbaro Canizares went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, lifting his average to .316.

Tides center fielder Matt Angle went 3 for 4, and right fielder Rhyne Hughes went 2 for 5. No other Norfolk batter got more than one hit.

Gwinnett's Mike Minor (2-0, 1.42 ERA) limited Norfolk to five hits and one run in five innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Norfolk's Zachary Britton (0-1, 2.53 ERA) took the loss, giving up four runs (three earned) on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked two.

The Tides complete their two-game series at Gwinnett with a 2:05 p.m. game today. Norfolk travels to Durham for single night games on Thursday and Friday, before returning to Harbor Park for single games against Durham at 7:15 p.m. Saturday and at 1:15 p.m. Sunday.
