A jury Monday recommended a sentence of 24 years and six months for a Beach man convicted of carjacking.
After a four-day trial in Virginia Beach Circuit Court, jurors convicted Damon Phineas Jordan, 39, of carjacking, use of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and eluding police, according to a news release.
On June 28, 2009, Jordan approached a 13-year-old boy as he waited in the car for his father to come out of a 7-Eleven on Haygood Road and Aragona Boulevard, prosecutors said.
He pointed a gun at the teen's head and told him to get out of the car. Jordan then took off in the car and fled from a police officer, starting a pursuit.
Jordan eventually got out of the car and was caught by police. His sentencing is set for Oct. 13.
