Vick's friends, family sued for millions in bankruptcy court

NEWPORT NEWS

Michael Vick wrongfully transferred millions of dollars to his friends and family in the months before he went to federal prison, Vick's bankruptcy trustee alleges in a lawsuit.

The suit, filed in Newport News U.S. Bankruptcy Court, seeks repayment of at least $2 million from Vick's mother, fiancée, brother Marcus, other family members and friends. Each was served with the court papers this week.

Vick's representatives called the suit misguided.

“He was being generous to his friends and family. He wasn’t trying to do anything illegal,” said Paul Campsen, Vick’s bankruptcy attorney.

Vick’s bankruptcy case, now more than two years old, has been one of the more complicated cases handled in the local bankruptcy courts, attorneys involved have said.

Last summer, after Vick’s release from prison, a bankruptcy judge approved a financial restructuring plan that allowed Vick to keep $300,000 of his salary with the Philadelphia Eagles while most of the rest of his millions go to pay off his creditors.

Vick, who lives in Hampton, served 23 months for bankrolling a dogfighting operation and remains on probation. When he went into prison, he claimed to owe $20 million.

I admire...

Mr Vick for his talent on the football field. And I was very grateful that the Philadelphia Eagles. Stuck their necks out, to give him a chance to redeem his self. But if he blow his chance with the Eagles, I don't know what else he expect the NFL and commissioner Goodell, to do for him. I think that Birthday tragedy is going to do him in. As for his attorneys giving him crappy financial advise, nothing new there.

Lets cut through the racial BS here

This isssue is nothing about race and everything about paying the debts you owe. Did anyone ever stop to think that the businesses he owed money to and did not pay might be owned by hard working honest African Americans?

Business persons provided this man services. They expected to get paid. Instead he funneled his money out to friends and relitives and grabbed the bankruptcy brass ring. Instead that money should have gone to the honest, hard working folks that provided services to Mr. Vick and expected compensation in return.

Personal ethics and doing the right thing. That is what this whole thing is about. If Vick violated the law here I hope he is prosecuted to the fullest extent. I also hope those businesses that provided services to him are compensated fairly and not pennies on the dollar as is the case in most bankruptcies.

Truly a Sad Story

This is truly a sad story, but who was the director. Mr. Michael Vick had everything. A contract that would take care of him for life as well as his mother, fiance, Marcas, friends, and family. All Mr. Vick had to do was to enjoy life, give back to his community and stay away from illegal activities. He failed! And, he is paying the consequences. He owes creditors a lot of money and they are the victims. If he hid his money by passing it around to all of the listed individuals, then they have the right to go get it. Don't feel sorry for Mr. Vick. Feel sorry for all those people that granted him credit and got stiffed. If the NAACP and others feel that he is being targeted because he is AFAM then let them pay the creditors and all will be good!

Mr vick

Mr Vick was just being generous, yea like in the sense of hey hold my money till I get out of jail and if it is still there when I get out Ill give ya some!! soo I mean he was being a little honest in his attourneys statement!

True.............

I imagine a good amount of the sentiment expressed in these posts are from individuals that WISH 'they' were in Mr. Vicks situation, even after the 23 months in jail.

It's jealousy at its basest form.

But, how many of 'us' SEE Vick repeatedly doing 'what he has always done' while at the same time talking about 'how remorseful' he is?

He's ONLY sad he got caught.

It's gotten to a point where most simply cant BELIEVE he's still putting himself 'out there'. He doesnt show any remorse. He's still thumbing his nose @ society.

sounds like a lifetime position

"from Vick's mother, fiancée, brother Marcus, other family members and friends"

"fiancée"? LOL world's longest "engagement".

BECAUSE THEY ARE UNEDUCATED IDIOTS

Because they want everything for free, and they are uneducated idiots.

WOW

Wow, after reading all of these comments posted, people want to say that the only reason why people are so critical about Vick is the color of his skin. It isnt that...he continues to put himself in different situations that cause him to get into trouble - first, the dogfighting, then, the shooting at his party, and now hiding money before he went to jail - Plain and Simple. But, why do people want to always use the race card as a get out of jail free card?

People making comments on

People making comments on here are already playing the "race card" with their cries that this is a form of racism. Nobody put Vick up to being involved in dogfighting. No one put Vick up to being at a party that his former "friend" happened to get shot at. Last time, I checked - Vick was a grown man - but because of the color of his skin, people want to automatically present the "race card" as a defense for his actions instead of him (or anybody else) owning up to his or her actions and accept responsibility.
