Adios, Wayne Carter and Mike Harvey.
Carter is leaving WVEC for WWL in his hometown, New Orleans. Harvey will also leave the market to head for WTAE in Pittsburgh. He has been WTKR's chief meteorologist since September 2006.
Carter worked at Channel 13 for six years as an investigative reporter and weekend anchor of the early morning newscast.
His career began in New Orleans - at age 14 he covered news of interest to teens there. He'll anchor the WWL 5 to 6 a.m. weekday newscasts.
"My father and grandmother live in New Orleans," Carter said. "I want to spend as much time with them as I can. I want for my daughter to see them more often than every six months. I'm putting family first."
Replacements have not been named.
And an arrival: April Samp joins WAVY/WVBT this month to succeed Kathy Hostetter as news director. Samp left KGAN/KFXA in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to take the job in Portsmouth.
Doug Davis, president and general manager of WAVY/WVBT, said Samp has 15 years experience in TV news. Her staff in Cedar Rapids won the 2009 Edward R. Murrow Award for investigative reporting.
When Stephanie Sy covered the military for WTKR in 2003, her goal was to be a foreign correspondent. She realized that dream when ABC News hired her and then assigned her to London and later to Beijing.
"It was a real kick when I signed off for the first time with, 'This is Stephanie Sy reporting from London,'" she said.
After her overseas assignments, Sy moved to Manhattan to cover the Northeast. She occasionally substitutes for Vinita Nair as co-anchor of the overnight "World News Now." Sy, who got married in April 2009, is expecting her first child in November.
Other Hampton Roads TV reporters who graduated to network news: Sharyn Alfonsi (WVEC) also works for ABC News, Stan Verrett (WAVY and WVEC) co-anchors the late-night "SportsCenter" for ESPN, Byron Pitts (WAVY) is chief national correspondent for CBS News and a contributor to "60 Minutes," Thomas Roberts (WAVY) anchors "Early Today" for NBC and Kelly Wright (WAVY and WVBT) is seen on the Fox News Channel's "Fox & Friends Weekend."
Tymberlee Hill, an Old Dominion University grad from Virginia Beach, appeared on "Grey's Anatomy" in 16 episodes over two seasons as an intern, Dr. Claire Allan. In the 2010 season finale, two interns were killed off - but not Hill's character.
Does that mean she'll return for a third season?
"The good news is that my character is alive, but I don't know if I'll be coming back," Hill said from Southern California. "I have nothing but happy memories of the series."
Series regular Chyler Leigh and guest star Jason George also have ties to Virginia Beach.

He's no joke.
I always watched Andy on weekends before Wayne came around. He's got personality, and always made so many people laugh, smile, and yes even cry when his mother died.
He's gone now, if you didn't like him be glad he's gone, but don't down the man that many of us liked. Especially here in Virginia Beach, he was always covering our community which is why I watched 13 during the week.
Why is Wayne Carter a joke?
Why is Wayne Carter a joke? I thought he did a good job on the weekends. Perhjaps, you can do better that he did, so tell them to hire you in his place.
HA!
Wayne Carter is a joke. Glad to see him go. Don't know that much about Mister Harvey, but it looks like he has pretty hair.
Departures from local channels
First of all I have to say THANK YOU for bringing Larry Bonko out of retirement (please say this is not a fluke!!!). Friends and I were just talking the other day that we miss not being up on our 'local celebs' and how Larry always filled us in. I was going to write an email to ask they resume that kind of reporting as thorough as Larry does it. Yes, actually I do have a life it's just that his columns were a part of that:)
I wish them both the best. I enjoyed Wayne and Julie Wilcox most weekend mornings on my station WVEC. I will miss him. Among other things I liked the animal segments. He seems a natural with the animals, especially the cats and seemed to get Julie to enjoy them too. I rarely see Channel 3 but when I would catch their weather Mike seemed pleasant enough with a good personality. I hope he is leaving because he wants to and not because Channel 3 is up to it's usual tricks of firing people. If you work for 3 don't go to lunch cause you might not have a job when you get back.
Again - thank you Larry Bonko and please say you'll stay.
Really enjoy
Wayne Carter and I am sorry to see him leave the area. As for Mike Harvey, oh well, I think all three of the local news stations could do better on their weather forecasting.
BEST OF LUCK...
Best of luck to you both I have notice early Saturdays and Sundays mornings before going to work that Wilcox and Carter work very well together. I am really going to miss that.. Mr.Harvey dresses very well and I will miss that too he has good camera present. You both will be missed. With respect.......
