Last night's storms formed ahead of a cold front that crossed the region overnight. That means it won't be as hot and humid today, with afternoon temperatures in the mid-80s.
The risk of rip currents is moderate today along the beaches in Hampton Roads and the Outer Banks of North Carolina, according to the National Weather Service.
Saturday will also be more comfortable with highs in the mid- to upper 80s.
Pilot writer Cindy Clayton contributed to this report.
