VIRGINIA BEACH

One person died when a tractor-trailer collided with a mini-van this morning at Northampton Boulevard and Burton Station Road, police said.

The tractor-trailer, a 2006 Peterbilt operated by FedEx, was headed south on Northampton at about 1 a.m. when the driver ran a red light, striking the minivan, which was headed east on Burton Station, said Officer Margie Hobbs, a police spokeswoman.

The driver of the mini-van died at the scene of the crash, Hobbs said. Police will release the driver’s identity once they contact relatives.

Police charged the tractor-trailer’s driver, Walter Yasuk, 60, of Jackson, N.J., with disregarding a red light, Hobbs said. He was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
