Joseph H. Hagerman III, who was found not guilty by reason of insanity last year after being charged with murder in the decapitation of his 5-year-old son, will spend another year in state custody.
Under state law, he is entitled to reviews of his status every year for the first five years, and every other year thereafter.
Hagerman waived his first review Wednesday and did not appear in court.
He is in the custody of the state's mental health system.
Hagerman had a history of mental illness when he attacked his son.
A psychologist's report said that Hagerman believed killing his son was the only way to save the child's soul. He also wounded his wife when she tried to intervene.
His next review will be on Aug. 17, 2011.
