Cuccinelli supports electronic recording systems in court

Posted to: News Virginia

RICHMOND

Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli says courts can install electronic recording systems, which could cut down on the need for court reporters.

Cuccinelli issued his opinion Aug. 2 at Del. Scott Surovell's request. Surovell introduced a bill last winter to authorize court clerks to record proceedings and to charge a fee for providing a copy of the recording, but the proposal died in committee.

The attorney general said current law already allows clerks to do this "provided that the confidentiality of the recordings is maintained."

Surovell says hiring court reporters is expensive, and using recording technology would be more cost-efficient. He says recordings in federal courtrooms usually cost around $25, compared to hundreds for court reporters.

Livable wages

Well, there goes another industry of high paying jobs. It was nice while it lasted.

Saving money is great but losing jobs makes it suck.

Just think...

A Federal Fair tax, instead of income taxes taken from our paycheck would leave more money in our pockets and reduce the numbers of federal workers necessary for federal income tax processing, investigations, etc etc etc... Which would save us even MORE money...

You have a cognitive issue

You have a cognitive issue don't you? How is your comment germane to this article?

Vendor?

Please tell me that the system provider would not be the same as the DMV provider.

Why would the recordings of court proceedings

be confidential if the proceedings themselves are open to the public? Maybe some juvenile proceedings or trade secrets proceedings should be closed but not without a court finding the absolute need for confidentiality. How else would normal people find out what the elites are doing to us?

the JDR ("family") Courts are SECRET Courts

Just like the Third Reich ones. I've been LOCKED OUT of countless court hearings as a Court Watcher because of judges claiming there were "infants" involved (they were TEENS, and not even present) or for other such asinighn reasons such as the judge or a deputy didn't "like my tshirt". I was ordered to take of my tshirt (freedom of speech rights-hellooo) or I was NOT ALLOWED in "his" courtroom! The NERVE! ITS THE PEOPLE'S COURTS - NOT OUR SERVANT POPOS (officers who don't even know their own Oath of Office) OR REFEREES (aka "judge")!

I call BS on your comments. I have never seen any member of the public barred from a PUBLIC courtroom other than someone who showed up in attire suitable only for the beach. If you show up in a t-shirt with profanity or in flip flops and a bikini, you should expect to be barred from the court.

Unlike all the other courts, juvenile courts do bar the public - because the defendants are juveniles. A 17 year old is a juvenile, whether you like it or not.

sour grapes

It sounds like the court didn't rule in your favor, eh?

Wait until you or your son

Wait until you or your son gets caught up in the Court system. Especially JDR or the Family Courts. The way the judges abuse their power in the courts will make you rethink your statement. Judges constantly trample on the constitution in "their" courts and there is nothing that the average person can do about it. If I were to walk down to the magistrates office and say that you were stalking me, they will come and arrest you and put you in jail, no questions asked. You will be brought before a judge who will, without due process or a jury trial, hold your fate in his hands. I, who committed a crime by malisciously accusing you, would recieve no punishment if the judge found you innocent. However, the judge could, without cause or reason, and this happens daily, rule you guilty and sentence you. What is your recourse? Nothing. Years of expensive legal battles. Criminals are job security for these people and the more criminals, real or perceived, the better off for them. Do not think that judges are there for you.
