Dangerous surf leads to Nags Head swimming restrictions

Posted to: News Visitors North Carolina

NAGS HEAD, N.C.

Red flags are posted today on Nags Head beaches because of hazardous surf and rip-current conditions.

The flags, which were posted this morning, restrict swimming in the ocean within town limits, according to a news release.

Nags Head officials are evaluating conditions throughout the day to determine if and when swimming restrictions can be lifted.

Rip currents are a dangerous river-like phenomenon that can pull swimmers away from shore. If caught in a rip current, swimmers are advised to swim parallel to shore rather than fight against the current.
