Easy as ABC

Perfect timing.

On the same day Gov. Bob McDonnell is slated to bring his Privatize-Virginia's-Liquor-Sales Bandwagon to Norfolk, we find this. A study conducted by George Mason University professor Donald J. Boudreaux, that compares drunk driving and other alcohol-related offenses in states with private sales of alcohol and those, like Virginia, with a government monopoly.

His conclusion: The Old Dominion should expect no significant difference in alcohol offenses once the state gets out of the booze-selling business.

Boudreaux points out that when hard liquor is unavailable, drunks turn to increased consumption of beer and wine.

Interesting.

Especially in light of recent news reports that claim the floor of the car driven by the guy who allegedly killed one nun and sent two others to the hospital in Prince William County was littered with empty beer cans.

SSSSoused!

Sounds like the good Professor Donald J. Boudreaux, may have had too many Bordeaux's. Maybe he is a expert on wine, beer and booze. The Good Governor has increased the speed limits to 75mph on many roads. Now add a Booze store on every corner and you have a lethal MIX.

Booze...Gas...Guns

Not being from VA, moving here to find liquor was government controlled was quite a shock and almost twice as costly. Where I am from booze is as readily available as gas and guns, the first two legally. Turns out it is easier to get a gun here, go figure. But in some parts of some neighborhoods it is just as easy to get a .38 with your fill up and fifth of Jack as it is to catch every red light on your way to something important. The number of drunk drivers will be no more if the state controlled sales is abandon. Those that are going to abuse will do so regardless of where they have to go to get either. Until...there is punishment to fit the crime. Use a gun, go to jail...forever. Kill someone under the influence...go to jail...for a long time. I think 5 years is a good start. But you would have to serve all five years, not a third of it. The problem is not who sells the liquor but who abuses it and until the government recoginizes the weak link, the abuse will continue.

He was also an illegal immigrant

something that seems to be ignored by the media.

So what

What is the connection between his immigration status and his drunk driving. Removing all illegals will not solve the drunk driving, crime or any other problem. If you want the illegal immigration problem solved, tell the republicans, the party of NO.

Removing illegals immigrants

will not stop drunk driving, in fact NOTHING will stop drunk driving, just like police, prison and laws against murder do not stop killing. But removing illegals, who have a much higher drunk driving arrests than the general population will reduce it considerably.

I'm confused.

Was the fact that he was an illegal immigrant tied to his drinking? Do only illegal immigrants drink and drive? Does DUI make you an illegal immigrant? I fail to see the connection. Help me, Kerry, please?

How hard do you work at truthseeking?

A quick and easy search would have revealed that the illegal that killed the nun was a repeat offender. Even more maddening, he was released by the Feds in each arrest, including this one.

I believe Kerry's base reasoning is if the Feds did their jobs, senseless deaths by illegals could be avoided. Let statistics speak for themselves:

Illegal aliens commit between 700,000 to 1,289,000 or more crimes per year. Illegal aliens commit at least 2,158 murders each year – a number that represents three times greater participation than their proportion of the population. Illegal alien sexual predators commit an estimated 130,909 sexual crimes each year. There may be as many as 240,000 illegal alien sex offenders circulating throughout America. Based on studies, they will commit an average of 8 sex crimes per perpetrator before being caught.

Studies

We all know that no amount of "studies" will ever influence the so-called thinking of those well-meaning people who wish to enforce tee-totalism through whatever means available. Were you around when the liquor-by-the-drink brouhah was current? The answer to studies was, "Well, I don't care WHAT those people say. I know the facts!"
