Jurors have awarded a former Gloucester High School student $5 million for permanent injuries he suffered in a 2006 lunchtime fight.
The jury on Friday also awarded Gregory Gagnon interest dating back to the fight, which could increases the award by $1 million.
In awarding the damages, the jury determined that a student who threw the punch and an assistant principal should pay the majority of the damages.
Medical experts for Gagnon said he has permanent, traumatic epilepsy and impaired sleep and other brain-related disorders as a result of the punch and subsequent fall.

What Money
He won't see a dime. Can't get blood from a turnip.
Not sure
the damages rise to the amount of the reward. And what exactly did the employee do or not do? No wonder nobody wants to go into education.
So..........
After reading some previous articles, on the Daily Press, it seems this kid seemed to think he was tough . Guess one punch took him down and now he is suing. Wow.
Almost reminds me of the robber breaking into your house, destroying your valuable possessions, but then tripping over something, and later suing you for a broken leg.
The real winner here is the attorney
He'll probably get half the money he can collect and didn't suffer even a bruise. But I agree we are missing a lot of details here as to how a jury could find for the plaintiff in this matter.
I must be missing something.
I must be missing something. What did the assistant principal do?
Just goes to show
Just goes to show that anyone will sue. Yes, it is sad that the kid suffers physical symptoms as a result of the fight. When I was in school, I saw a lot of fights, some leaving kids badly injured, one kkid in particular had to undergo surger to stop internal bleeding. His family did not sue. It was just an unlucky break.
Criminal behavior
Surgery required to stop internal bleeding due to a physical attack is "An unlucky break"? Seriously? It is assault and battery. It is a crime. If you get involved in this type of behavior outside the school property, someone is going to jail. The idea that because it occurs within a school it is kids just being kids is absurd. Police need to be called, kids need to cuffed and thrown into the backs of squad cars, and booked. Judges have to stop sending thugs back to schools under the only provision of their probation is that they attend school rather than attend and do the work with minimum academic achievement...and if they cause any more problems or don't work to be successful then it is back to jail. Let's get real and make schools what they are supposed to be an educational institution that are safe--not surrogate prisons.
It's not an unlucky break
It's not an unlucky break and he was right to sue! No one has any right to put their hands on anyone else, ever!! People need to learn this lesson, regardless of the method in which the lesson is learned. Too many people believe they are warranted in throwing a punch...they are not! Cheers to this student!
lemmie get this straight
Gagnon bullies another student online (daily press article)-seeks him out to start a fight and gets his behind handed to him in one punch.
Sorry he has permanent injury-but he doesn't deserve a dime. When you instigate a fight and don't know when to stop running your mouth, this is what happens.
Bullies him online??? Then
Bullies him online??? Then it should have been a virtual fight. Seriously though, would you go over to your neighbor to threaten him because his dog is barking, without knowing if the guy will shoot you, or call the police to handle it? The cause of the fight is not what matter here, it is the injury.
