Jeff Sheler covers Suffolk government.

Before joining the Pilot staff in August, 2010, Jeff was an award-winning freelance journalist and author and longtime senior writer at U.S. News & World Report.

At the magazine, he covered the American religion scene for nearly two decades and wrote more than 35 cover stories on religious topics ranging from American evangelicalism to the pedophile scandal in the Roman Catholic Church.

Earlier, he headed the magazine’s Capitol Hill staff and covered business, labor, and national and international news. He began his journalism career at United Press International working in Chicago, the Illinois statehouse in Springfield, and Detroit.

Jeff is a Michigan native and a graduate of Michigan State and Georgetown universities. He and his wife live in Portsmouth.
