One killed in Suffolk crash of tractor-trailer, pickup

SUFFOLK

One person died in a crash Monday morning involving a tractor-trailer and a pickup truck on South Quay Road at Wyanoke Trail, according to the city.

The crash was reported at 4:19 a.m., according to Debbie George, city spokeswoman. Investigators believe the tractor-trailer was backing up and attempting to turn around when it was hit by the pickup. The truck went under the tractor-trailer.

The road was closed for several hours while crews removed the vehicles. 

A police report identified the man who died as Raymond Lee Fields, 65.  

Fog that reduced visibility on the road may have been a factor in the crash, according to George.
