The School Board decided Thursday to schedule a meeting with the City Council to discuss how to select a site for a new elementary school.
Nine options are on the table, Chairwoman Lorraine Skeeter said, declining to elaborate. The School Board would like to talk with the council by Sept. 9, the date of the board's next monthly meeting.
The board has discussed for months where to build a school to replace both Robertson and Southwestern elementary schools. Members are split on whether to build in the Holland area, where Southwestern is, or somewhere that's central to Holland and Whaleyville, the location of Robertson.
Last week, the council recommended placing the school at a site in Holland because it would best fit the city's comprehensive plan. The board rejected that suggestion 4-3 the following day.
During Thursday's special meeting, board members also voted unanimously to give $10,000 to Nansemond River High School's marching band for a Thanksgiving Day parade in Philadelphia.

can these idiots just come
can these idiots just come together long enough to designate a cite for this school to be built. how hard can this be. by the time a cite is proposed, our kids would all have died from the mold and other contaminates they i know are present in those pre- WWW1 buildings. and 10,000 dollars for a school to attend a parade while the teachers here still are not getting raises.....ARE U SERIOUS!
