Police are investigating the fatal shooting of a teen that occurred Wednesday night in Ocean Lakes.
The teen and a friend were walking down Bold Ruler Drive at about 11 p.m. when someone fired from a passing vehicle, according to a news release from the Police Department. They ran to a residence in the 600 block of Ocean Lakes Drive, in the Saddlewood condominiums, where the teen died of his injuries, according to the release.
The victim is a 17-year-old male who lived in the 1100 block of Debussy Court, police said. They refused to release his identity.
In the past, police as a general practice have released the identities of crime victims, including juveniles. They are withholding the victim’s name in this case because the family asked that it be kept private, said Officer Margie Hobbs, a police spokeswoman, in an e-mail.
The victim’s official cause of death is pending an autopsy, according to the release.
Police are investigating but do not have descriptions of the shooter or the vehicle carrying the shooter, Hobbs said. She said the motive is unknown.
