A special education teacher at Salem Middle School is accused of sex crimes.

Randall Pilon, 54, thought he was corresponding with a 14-year-old girl online, according to a police news release.

He was arrested at the school Friday and charged with attempted indecent liberties and use of a communications device to facilitate offenses against children, according to the release.

He is being held in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.

Pilon, who lives in the 3300 block of Waterman Road, has been suspended without pay, said Nancy Soscia, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Beach public schools.

Pilon has worked for Salem Middle School since August 2000, first as a security assistant, then as a special education teacher, Soscia said.
