GET DOWN AT THE AMERICAN MUSIC FESTIVAL
Hit the beach after dinner Friday, Saturday and Sunday to see bands like The Village People, Chicago, Pat Benatar, REO Speedwagon and Delbert McClinton. Pay for the main stage at 5th street or head to one of the free side stages at 17th, 24th and 31st streets. No hurricane could shut this party down.
CATCH SOME TUNES BY LADY ANTEBELLUM
Check out one of country music's most loved new bands. Their first album in 2007 debuted at No. 1, and their second album Need You Now was recently released. Lawn tickets are still available for the Friday night show.
HIT FIRST FRIDAY IN OLDE TOWNE
If you haven't been to a First Friday in Portsmouth yet, you need to try and make it down. Live music, free exhibitions, food and beverages help make this monthly event a one-of-a-kind evening. Tonight, Mike Beck and his band Laika Roulette will perform.
GET YOUR SYNTH ON WITH TEARS FOR FEARS
Shout. Shout. Let it all out... If you were of a certain age during the 1980s, you can't miss this concert Saturday night. Who doesn't love hits like "Shout," "Head Over Heels," "Everybody Wants to Rule The World," and "Mad World?"
WATCH 'EM SWEAT AT THE ROCK 'N' ROLL HALF MARATHON
Whether you want to enter last minute or just go for the after-party, the Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon has become something of a local tradition. More than 20,000 runners from around the country will flood the Oceanfront on Sunday for what could be America's coolest running event. Music keeps the atmosphere lively for all 13.1 miles of the race. The finishline turns into a big party. What more could you want? (OK, maybe an electric scooter...)
BE A WINE-O AT SYMPHONY UNDER THE STARS
Head to Chesapeake City Park for a night of music by the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. The concert is F-R-E-E! But bring a few bucks along because there's a wine tasting and for $5 you can taste 4 wines. A silent auction and food will also be available. Proceeds benefit Chesapeake's Fine Arts Commission public programs.

First Friday in Olde Towne
If you haven't been, First Friday in Olde Towne kicks off a weekend long lists of events including on Saturday the Olde Towne Antiques to Flea Market (Hampton Roads best) and the Olde Towne Farmers Market. Sunday offers a smorgasbord of Sunday Brunch offerings-my favorite is Brutti's on Court Street...fabulous.
First Friday participants start at the riverfront and includes seven blocks of galleries, shops, pubs and restaurants. Don't forget that two of Olde Towne's best galleries- Riverview Gallery and Skipjack Nautical Wares & Marine Gallery are open with new artwork on display!
Eerything's great but the
Eerything's great but the farmers market - a huge disappointment last first friday. IT's puny, far too few vendors to be considered a market, tho those vendors are good - just too few! Smallest I've ever seen.
