A Virginia Beach man will serve 38 years for his role in a robbery that resulted in a fatal shooting.
Circuit Judge Leslie L. Lilley followed a jury's recommendation in sentencing Alvin Lorenzo Evans Jr. on Tuesday.
Evans, 33, was convicted of first-degree murder, attempted robbery, conspiracy and firearms charges in the slaying of Sherrod Bailey, 26, on Feb. 7, 2008.
Prosecutors argued that Evans and two co-defendants in the case, Beverlyn Johnson and Keone Baxter, plotted to lure Bailey out to The Mayfair Apartments, using Johnson as bait.
Johnson was sentenced to 10 years and Baxter received 20 years for his role in the crime.
