VIRGINIA BEACH

Jim Merrill, superintendent of Beach schools, will participate in NBC News' "Education Nation" summit in New York City on Monday and Tuesday.

The event will include 12 sessions on some of the biggest education topics of the day, including work force readiness, developing great teachers, technology and innovation, parental involvement, early education, higher education, and the politics of education.

"This has the potential to be a powerful conversation between educators, parents, and policy makers," Merrill said in a news release Friday afternoon.

The list of attendees reads like a who's who of education reform, including mayors, superintendents of large school systems, business leaders and charter school operators.

The discussions will be covered by MSNBC. More information on the summit is posted at EducationNation.com.
