Fire doused at Newport News Outback Steakhouse

Fire fighters put out a fire at 4:25 a.m. at The Outback Steakhouse by Patrick Henry Mall.

The Newport News Fire Department received an automatic fire alarm from the restaurant on 12258 Jefferson Ave. at 3:37 a.m. and arrived to discover heavy smoke coming from the back of the building, according to Assistant Fire Chief Robert O. Craft Jr.

The fire was contained and investigators are trying to determine the cause, officials said.

There were no injuries.

I have heard of several fires in Va and NC due to the old type neon signs. I remember a old BUD BEER sign that caused a inside fire in a bar in Chesapeake once.
