Football: Ocean Lakes' Eli Harold getting noticed; more numbers from Oscar Smith-Pickerington Central game

Chris Carlson reports on Ocean Lakes' Eli Harold

Local football fans might not recognize the name sitting No. 2 among Rivals’ Class of 2012 from Virginia.

They will soon.

Despite missing almost all of last season with a knee injury, Harold’s film from freshman year, along with his performance at summer camps has earned him offers from both Penn State and Virginia Tech. College coaches have told Dolphins coach Chris Scott that Harold could be a “30-offer type of kid.”

Scott said Penn State is recruiting him at wide receiver, while the Hokies want him as an athlete.

While Harold’s college future is easy to predict, his position is harder.

At 6-foot-4, 210 pounds he currently plays receiver and defensive end. His long arms would give him an edge at wide receiver, but his size and blazing first step could point toward playing defense at the next level.

“If he lifts and keeps eating right, he’ll be 225-230,” Scott said. “Is that too heavy to play receiver? I don’t know. It all depends on how he carries it.”

His teammate Chaz Lowery, ranked No. 17 in the Pilot’s Top 50 Recruits in South Hampton Roads, will take an official visit to East Carolina on Oct. 16 when the Pirates face North Carolina State.
